Question Which is better for 4y.o.- backless booster or improperly adjusted harnessed seat?

My daughter (4.75yo, 36 lbs, 40+" tall) will be carpooling to school this year. All the other kids use backless boosters. I spoke to the parent who will be driving my daughter, and offered to provide a Safety 1st Go Hybrid, which is harnessed but takes up the same amount of space as a booster, and can be easily adjusted for multiple kids. I told her if she didn't want the seat installed in her car all year, I would just do the booster instead. She responded saying they already have a forward-facing seat for their 2.75yo son, and my daughter is welcome to use that seat (the son won't be carpooling). They'd rather not have a second seat installed (though I think she would say ok if I pushed the issue).

I am worried that they can't/won't adjust the height of the harness straps between each use. So, I am wondering, do you think my daughter would be safer in a backless booster (Harmony Juvenile/Literider), or riding in their FF harnessed seat with the straps too low? I can get more info about their seat if that would help, I just wanted to have some ideas before responding to her email.

Thanks for your help!

If I may make two suggestions.

The first is you push the issue. That way you have a seat you've installed that you know that she knows that you know is ok.

The second is that you move the straps up on their son's seat. At or above is the rule. If the straps are at his ears and your daughter's shoulders, both are safe. Better that than him safe and her not.

So there are some options here. :)

Thanks Wendy,

I spoke to the other parents and they have no problems with my adjusting the harness height to fit my daughter, so we'll do that. I feel very relieved! Thanks again for your help.
