Question Best convertible car seat for tall and heavy baby (Canada)

Hi,

I live in Calgary, Canada. I have a 4.5 months old boy, who weighs 18.5lb, and is 26.5 inches long(as of July 17, 2013), and I suspect he's grown heavier and taller since. He is currently in Graco Snugride 32 bucket seat. It has become a struggle to buckle him in recently. We saw some good reviews on Britax, and were considering Britax Blvd., but also heard their shell is shorter when compared to some other brands for torso heights. Is that true? If so, what would be your recommendation? Thank you in advance.

Hello and welcome :)

Can you tell us what vehicle you drive please.

Also, yes you are correct, Britax convertibles do have shorter shells than some other brands.

Post back with what you drive and we'll go from there..

I just want to comment on the part where you said it is getting difficult to buckle him. Have you adjusted the straps to the longer loops? If you look at the back of the seat, at both the hips, and the splitter plate there should be another set of loops to lengthen the harness. That might give you a bit more time in the infant seat.

Hello,
We drive a 2006 Mazada 3, not a hatch back. Thanks.

Hi fatherhead,

Yes, we've tried that. Maybe we dont know how to adjust the straps but when we put the shoulder straps to the highest setting the entire buckle is even tighter, and when I press the metal piece to release more straps, the straps wouldn't give in. We don't have a manual with us. Anyways, this is why we are thinking to get a convertible.

I was thinking this as well - he should have plenty of room left in the bucket seat.

I agree with this as well.
