Can person in seat in front recline their seat if you have a child in a carseat?

I've been reading online and it seems that the person in front can't recline their seat without swishing a tots legs? We are taking my 2.5 year olds car seat but wondering how do I keep the person in front of her from reclining? Perhaps I should book the 2 seats ahead of us for our 12 and 9 year olds and hubby and I sit on either side of the car seat? Help

Hi!

Unfortunately, you can ask people not to but they often still do. :( The best ways to manage it are either to rear-face the child in the car seat (then they physically cannot squish the child's legs!) or to put a family member in front. They do generally require that a child in a row be accompanied by an adult. So probably you, car seated child, and one other child in one row, another row and your husband in the other. (Or a similar arrangement.) Also, if you'll be on an aisle with a window seat, the car seat will be required to go there. (If it's the middle aisle of a larger plane, you're correct that the child restraint will be required to be in the center spot.)

The person in front won't be able to recline if the seat is rear-facing, and shouldn't if the seat is forward-facing. Having a family member sit in front of the little one is a good solution, or you can steal my travel solution: pack a few good chocolate bars and those little airplane bottles of vodka and offer them to passengers that are inconvenienced. Works every time.

I have never had a problem with legs being squished for a ff kid in a car seat on a plane. But it's been many years and I know planes have gotten smaller...

I have had people furious at being unable to recline their seat because a seat was rf. We've offered to let them switch with one of us so they can recline their seat but they preferred to sit there and talk about us instead.

In that case we were using buckets which can only go one way.

You want someone like me in front of your child's seat.

I HATE it when the person in front of me reclines their airplane seat. I don't recline mine, either, because I don't want to inconvenience the people behind me.

It is AWFUL to be in the window or center seat and to get up to go to the bathroom when the person in front of the center or aisle seat has their seat reclined. You wind up having to sit in your row mate's lap in order to get up.

Even on a 18-hour plane ride, I don't recline my seat.

When I was coming back from Ireland, I was in the center seat, and the woman in front of my aunt, who was in the aisle seat, reclined her seat WAY back and then complained to ME and my aunt that our vents and lights were bothering her. She requested that we turn them off so she could be comfortable. Um, no! I was SO tempted to say, "Sit up and they won't bother you!"
