If you chould choose any seat....

So due to an unfortunate discovery this week, the classic MA I was planning to use FF for our our then 4 yo, 32 lb-er this December on our vacation is trashed. (mold:( )

So I'm in the market for a new seat (we need a backup anyways). If you could chose any seat in the world, within reason, which car seat would you choose for airline and rental car travel?

Again, DS will be 4 yrs old, about 32 lbs guessing at the time, and average torso.

I'm primarily looking for something that is easy and quick to install in both the airplane (flying Metjet with a 6 across configuration if that matters) and the rental van (don't know for sure exactly which one yet but it will be your standard minivan, probably installed in the 3rd row).

Where is the mold and how much life is left on the seat? I'd probably clean or replace parts within reason before buying a new seat, unless it's gonna expire soon anyway. (although harnesses and covers can always be ebayed)

If it just need to be in rental cars or even just a what seat would you choose for a child this age and size my vote would be for the Frontier 90. It is not airline approved, so would be a no go for your situation.

I agree with Maestro, SecureKid, or Sureride. Hope you like Evenflo...the clear winner in your situation! l0l

Just a note about airline travel with the Maestro.... I took this on the plane for my daughter and when you buckle using the airline seatbelt, the big buckle of the seatbelt sticks right into the child's lower back because there is nothing between where the belt goes and the maestro cover ... Does that make sense? My daughter was really complaining and I had to wedge a blanket behind the seat between the buckle and the seat to help. I used to travel with a roundabout before and never had a problem with that seat. There is space between where the seatbelt buckle sits and the child's back. Just something to consider :)

Would/Could have a buckle extender helped this problem (by moving where the belt buckled)? Also just thinking.

No, unfortunately. The problem in these situations is the long male end; the only (virtually impossible) solution would be shortening it. :(

The mold covers almost the entire base area and the adjuster strap. I did look into possibly just stripping the whole thing, washing the mold off the plastic base and ordering a new adjuster strap, but the thing expires next year. It doesn't quite seem worth all the hassle when we have to eventually get a new one anyways. KWIM?

Maestro, sureride, or if you loved the install on it another marathon classic (or if you have more kids down the road).

Honestly, I *loved* the classic for RF use. Wasn't fully thrilled with it FF, but as a back-up it worked well for our needs. I am, honestly, considering just watching for sales and coupon codes and ordering another from Target.

I'm wondering if it would just be easiest as far as installing in the rental van. I'm familiar with it, both LATCH and seat belt installs, plus I *love* that in tethers RF for when the 1 yo needs it as a back-up after the 3 yo outgrows it as his FF backup in torso height.

Plus, I will be able to keep and still use the american flag cover sets I have from the last two (yes, I've owned 2 so far LOL)

I'm SUPER excited that my friend has offered us the ability to use her cocco for the toddler so I'm not worried too much about the extra pound or two that the MA might have over any of the Evenflo seats. Except that if someone has any experience with installing the MA vs. the Evenflo seats on the airplane? Both would be FF for the trip.

I believe turning the buckle 180 degrees with the maestro makes it not so jabby on kids backs on planes. Though with another little one I'd get a sureride over a maestro. Now if you have space to grow (I'd look for more than an inch torso height) in the classic marathon-you like it rf and 1yo will use it most of its lifetime-just go with it!
