Question Suggestions for Improvements

What would you like to see at Car-Seat.Org?

What features at other parenting/community sites do you miss here?

What rules or guidelines are too strict or not strict enough compared to other forums?

With our new server, there is some additional flexibility. On the downside, this old forum software is quite limited in features and expandability. Someday, there will be an upgrade to the latest version or another platform.

Until then, what can we do to make the experience better for both guests and members?

On other forums you visit, what platforms do you like? What platforms do you dislike? Please include software and version if possible. For example, we are running vBulletin 3.8. vBulletin 4.2 is the latest version (used at Carseatmoms.com and many other forums) and vBulletin 5 is in beta. phpBB, IPB (Invision), XenForo, SMF, Huddler and others provide popular alternatives. Some are proprietary and would not be possible to use.

While we do act on feedback frequently, please consider that we rarely make quick changes, even to popular suggestions. Many suggestions have already been considered or cannot be implemented for one reason or another. Many in the community here dislike change of any sort, so the changes we do make tend to be minor and gradual if at all possible. This forum software is coming to its end of life, so even suggestions that cannot be made now will be helpful in searching for features available in a new platform.

The first two would rely on software upgrades and are beyond my control.

3-letter search might be possible on the new server, with specific 2-letter terms added. Problem is, it took forever to recompile last time to get specific 3-letter terms. Perhaps the new host will be better.

Most members had attachment uploads increased a few days ago, many to double the previous limits.

Not that I'm on the website much, but I prefer vBulletin over any other platform times a zillion, lol!

Maybe a post that's a sticky that lists each individual state's passenger safety laws. I see tons of people on fb (myself included) asking if anyone knows laws for a certain state/province.

Also, free pie on Tuesdays.

Both good ideas. Anyone want to create and maintain such a list? Perhaps for a free Baker's Square gift card?

For reals, though, I can start and maintain the list of state laws if LM4M doesn't want to. I think it's a great idea and one I've thought of before, too.

That site and the other one always cited (IIHS?) are pretty vague. It would be nice to have something that goes a little more into the complexities without being completely overwhelming.

Also, < and > signs confuse the crap out of me :p

It's all yours, yo. I vote for the no < or > signs, too. Also, pie. You'll get pie. Do ittttt.

Oh, I know what they mean. I just always have to sit there thinking about alligators. Or, when it's being used for practical things, figure out what it actually means. So, like, if it says < or = 7 in a car seat and <7 but > or = 16 in a seatbelt, I'm like, "WTF? Just tell me the law is 7 and under in a car seat, and seatbelts until 16."

Bump!

Any suggestions for upgrades or improvements?

New forums? Fewer forums? New features?

This is an old platform, but there are still some possibilities.

There's still a chance that there will be an upgrade to the newest vBulletin or Xenforo or another platform in the future, but for now things seem to be running fairly well.
