Evenflo Maestro in 2012 Camry - locking clip?

Please say no!!!

I got this as a spare seat recently, and I was just installing it.

It appears that the instructions tell me I have to use a locking clip, but I'll be darned if, after installing it with a seatbelt that I could see ANY way of getting a locking clip into the tiny sliver of space between the seat and the seatbelt tongue.

The car obviously has the seatbelts where if you pull them out all the way that they retract and stay locked, so even though it has the seatbelt tongue that can slide freely along the seatbelt, doesn't the locking belt itself negate the need for the locking clip?

(And *&!*$^&@ regarding trying to get the locking clip itself off the back of the seat. I ended up having to go fetch one I had around the house from an older Evenflo seat, so please don't tell me locking clips expire!)

Honestly, if this seat is going to require a locking clip after all, I am probably going to bring the seat back. :(

If the seatbelt locks and you can get a proper install without the locking clip, you don't need to use it. :)

Nope, don't need it, and Evenflo is in the process of removing that wording from the manuals. Good on you for reading it, at least.

You are my heros.

:love::bow::love::bow:

It feels rock solid at the belt path and MAYBE 1/4 inch of jiggle at the top of the head rest, but I am going to go tighten up the top tether some more, which should take care of that. I stopped halfway through to come in here and ask!

THANK YOU

You need less than 1" at the belt path. Any movement at the head is fine as long as there's less than 1" at the belt path. Up to 1" is acceptable.
