Infant bucket for Mazda 5

Hi, I tried posting the other day about this but no text posted- hoping a different browser will fix the problem. Anyway, I'm due in March and starting to consider infant seats for a 2nd row install in my Mazda 5. I am a fan of Britax but I understand the Chaperone might touch the front seats or restrict leg-room for the front row. Does this seem factual? Are there even any RF seats that won't touch the front row seat backs?

Another consideration is that I'd like to have the seat be compatible with my Maclaren Easy Traveller stroller frame. I'll go with Snugride 22 if I have to but the Maxi Cosi Mico is also looking nice. :) I'm hoping to get a few suggestions for my short list, any thoughts? Thanks in advance for any advice.

I don't think a Chaperone would work well front to back. Not if you're planning a passenger there. A Keyfit works with the front seat fairly far back. A Cybex Aton would work. Probably a Graco Snugride 30. I'm not sure if you can still buy a 22 as not part of a travel system. The Mico would probably work, though it's a long seat front to back.

Do you have a BRU near you? They'll let you try out seats in your car.

I do have a BRU! Thank you, that's a great suggestion. Also a Buy-Buy-Baby, hopefully they are as nice. I will have to put down my cup of Britax kool-aid, LOL. ;(

BBB lets you try out seats in your car as well.

The Britax Kool-Aid is strong (Piper started with two Britax Advantages, then went to two Britax Wizards, then I bought a Britax Parkway which will expire in November). But all carseats pass the same tests, and there is nothing out there that makes me think that a Britax is safer than other seats. All harnessed seats will save a life when used properly.

Well, now I'm not so sure if I want to use an infant bucket at all. Our stroller goes from 3 mos.+ and I can't see it would be a problem to baby-wear until then. I guess I do still lean to the Britaxes --especially where cowmooflage is an option. Silly, I know... esp. since our last name contains the word "cow"-- ANYWAY. :) I just wanted to stop in and ask if any of the Britax seats are considered better than the others for newborns and better for small front-to-back spaces.

I might have older 5yo DD out of her Frontier 85 by the time youngest outgrows whichever convertible we buy. Imagine, only one more seat to buy! Any advice on this is appreciated.

I just noticed that none of them seem to have level indicators. This is probably especially important for the young babies. Is it difficult for a "layperson" to eyeball if the seat is at the correct incline?

They all have lines that indicate 37.5º. However, the infant positioning wedge changes the angle internally, so even if the seat is more upright, the baby is not.

We have a Britax Marathon 70 in our Mazda 5, and it goes in well. There is comfortable passenger room. The Radian, not so much. Our Keyfit will be be going in for baby #4 any day now!

I had maxi-cosi micos for our kids - it is a long seat and you need to have the handle back to ride - which makes it longer. It is super easy to install baseless which might help? It didn't fit well in our dodge caliber but no problems in the Honda minivan.

The Mico --and all Dorel infant seats -- allow the handle in any locked position during travel. This was a change made about four years ago and it was retroactive.

Glad to find this thread; I started another one that has the same question (plus a few more.)

I'd like to replace the "baby trend" bucket seat we have for our 5 month old in our mazda 5- we got it from craigslist when we couldn't afford anything else, but things have changed now (and we are driving baby around more, too.) Is the baby trend seat known for being "long" too? It has to have the handle down, and it does make the front passenger seat a tight squeeze.

OP, if you do decide to go with a non-infant car seat, I'd love to hear what you decide on and why. It seems a bit odd to me to buy another infant seat with an already 5 month old, so I'm looking at other options as well.
