Frontier now or later: WWYD?

The $200 amazon Frontiers have me thinking. 3 and a half year old C is still RF in his Swedish seat, but has ridden twice FF in the radian (not that I'm counting), and it's looking like he'll do that more just for ease in multiple cars. He's got an inch of torso to go in both before he hits the headwings (when he's comfy. When he sits up and wiggles it looks like he's going to hit it tomorrow).

So... should I buy a Frontier 85 now? I don't need it instantly (I have two radians and a 2nd kid that doesn't need them yet), but I can't imagine with the Giant Children and small cars that anything else will do, unless we're going to look at some sort of a 5 year old in booster situation (probably not a good idea with this one).

There might be a new car in our future, though... I'm just not sure if springing for the sale is smart. I'm usually a wait until you need it kind of person, but now I'm torn.

WWYD?

How long did it take him to grow his last inch of torso? I probably would hold out if you think it's going to take a year or so. Sales come and go and you'd probably find another sale in a year or so. If based on his recent growth that inch will take 6 months or less, then I would snag one now.

The FN 85 is ALWAYS on sale on Amazon around the $21X.XX mark. It's like $13 cheaper now, not really a big deal ...

I thought about one also but I wonder if a new model of the FN85 maybe around the corner with the new Britax G3 seats released not too long ago.

I would wait, but that's just me. I'll wait until the end of the year when they make fabrics without the harmful flame retardants. Britax, and Orbit, are hopefully paving the way here to less toxic seats. They will still meet the requirements, just without chemicals known to be dangerous.

If you're not in a hurry, that's something, at least.

I'd wait. Agree on the price, especially for a 9 year seat...it's hard seeing that $1xx and not buying, but you don't know what an extra few months does for booster readiness, new seats, etc.

OK, thanks folks. I'll resist. I can't for the life of me figure out how he's been growing, but I think it's in the legs mostly. Maybe they'll make a red in the Fr85 again by the time I need it!

I would wait. I bought one for a great deal because my son was 48 lbs and an inch fro mthe top harness setting in gn and while he has gotten taller and heavier, He still has not outgrown GN. So for me I think that while I love it, I never needed it.
Its nice to have, but am thinking that I may get rid of it sooner than later. Especially since he is starting to booster really well.
