adult five point harness systems

I posted this on the american site too but want to know from you canadian techs.

you know the ones that you can use when you are racing cars right? Can you use those in place of the regular shoulder belt on booster seats? Stupid question I know but if they are installed properly in the car and an adult can use them can you use it as the belt for the child? That way it is not a two point harness with the booster, it will be a full 5 point?
sigh.........

A booster is designed to work with a 3pt lap/shoulder belt (pts for the shoulder, lap and buckle - make it 3 ;)).

There are special vests that can be and are required to be used with a booster to make a 4 or 5 pt harness, but I'm not sure if they are available here.

Once your child is big enough to be out of a harnessed seat, you may find that he fits the 5pt harness that you want to install on the seat.

I would personally not feel comfortable using a booter with a vehicle seat's 5pt harness restraint without calling the manufacturer and getting the okay from them IN WRITING.

I would also make sure that the racing harness you want installed is done correctly... definitely don't want mistakes happening with such an important aspect of vehicle safety.

Does this car that you are referring to already have the 5point seatbelt? Or is the a hypothetical scenario where you are thinking of getting a 5 point to increase safety for ds? if that is the case, I think you best and safest option would be to have him harnessed in a 5 point child restraint for as long as possible, then move him into a good highback booster in a regular 3 point shoulder belt.:twocents: Your best bet to answer your questions would be to call the company who manufacturer the 5 point system you have or are thinking of installing. If they have never tested the systems with a child dummy in a booster, then STEER CLEAR!! Do what you already know would be safest for your son anyway.

it is a hypothetical situation right now. The seat my husband wants only harnesses to 48lbs then he was thinking of doing the five point. He is looking into a mustang. He would get the belt professionally installed. I am wondering about using the Y80, or whatever it was called, with a backless booster for him. That might work too. In my car he is harnessed to 65lbs. Hubby's car is barely used for Cooper cause he doesn't have a seat and I think he really wants to be taking him out. So it would have to wait until he is 30lbs and FFing. But I can tell it is breaking his heart that he can't take his kid out the way he wants cause I am being a pain in the ars. LOL. But I am sure that he appreciates my safety analness. HAHA.He just wants Cooper's seat to match the rest of the car and daddy's harness and stuff. :shrug-shoulders: men!

Get a safe, sleek looking carseat for the back then and leave the 5pt harnesses for the front seat. With the windows tinted, you are never going to see into the teeny, tiny backseat anyway. ;) :D

It would probably be very difficult (ie. super expensive lol) to put 5pt harnesses into the back seat of a Mustang (my mom used to own one).

Edited to add: This is the only picture I currently have, but it's a Radian in the back of dh's little sports car. Very sleek and blends in very well... especially now that we have two of them FFing in both outboard bucket seats.

Maybe show your dh the Radian, with the low profile of the seat it looks pretty close to the racing seats all on it's own. Tell him if he wants to take ds on his own it's either with your car, or this seat. You could buy the Radian Premier in Supercool which is the most man-friendly pattern on the market. The other seat you dh was looking at in only available in the States anyway, so you can tell him it's not an option, as it is illegal to import seats. Here is a look at the supercool on skjp's website:

And here is another picture of someone's real life supercool seat:

I have been mentioning the radian. I just am not getting where he is coming from! And he is not getting me. But too bad so sad cause it is gonna be MY way! LOL! I will show him the radians in person and see what he thinks. Jenn, I like that dark one you posted. Cool. He might go for that! And our TJ's has four different colors right now. I get the safety he is going for but I hope he just lets me do it this way. sigh......

If you can wait a bit till canadian tire gets some 65lb ones in stock, and if your DH loves his canadian tire $$ as much as mine, then he will be extra happy - my DH was so pleased with the almost $50 canadian tire $$ he finally had a chance to use for something usefull...and it really cut down on the cash outlay for the radian.

are they getting the new seats? We don't have canadian tire money. I think it will end up being the supercool or whatever that we will get. The radian 80. So I think I have to go to a specialty store
