Radian in a suitcase?

I'm aware of the dangers of checking a car seat, but was wondering if packing a radian (folded) in a suitcase, surrounded on all sides with lots of clothes, might be a reasonable compromise? I'll be traveling with a 5yo, 3yo, and 8mo. 5yo uses a nautilus (harnessed) and the 3yo and baby rf in radians. I don't look forward to that in an airport/plane! I might be able to borrow a ride safer travel vest for the 5yo, and I'm comfortable with the 3yo using the airplane seat belt. Ideally, I'd like to only bring one carseat on (for the baby). Lots of clothes to absorb shock around a carseat in a suit case seems a lot less potentially damaging than any tumbling the (ordered online) seats took in their cardboard boxes when they came to me in the mail! Thoughts?

The cardboard box is a crumple zone, though. Clothes I don't think are.

I'd probably put two Radians folded on one luggage cart. No more extra work to get them both on the plane. How heavy is the three year old? The FAA recommends a seat until 40 pounds, and my personal experience is that the belt didn't fit Piper until 38-43 pounds (one plane was still loose at 53 pounds). Others have said their kids fit around 35 pounds. Different shapes will fit differently. But if you have a smaller three year old, the lap belt just won't fit. Also, how well does the three year old sit? There have been two three year olds kicked off of flights this year that made the news since the three year olds wouldn't stay buckled, and were considered a risk to themselves and others.

What if your suitcase is sent to the wrong city?? How would one of your children leave the airport safely or do you have a Plan B??

I once walked off a flight to find only one of my four checked bags but my Radian had been used on the plane and thus my dd rode safely home on the 2 hour drive. Glad I didn't check it since we had to wait 4 unhappy days for our bags!

Are you flying alone with them?
