I got a new pediatrician for Piper yesterday

And as we were leaving the meet & greet I asked if she gave advice about carseats. She'd been perfect to that point for me, just wonderful (complete with her own 34 pound six year old so I know no grief is going to be coming about Piper's weight). She said, "Do you mean about when to move them? Yes, I do." The other mom who was there asked about boosters (she has a 75 pound 7 year old with autism) and the ped said that they needed to sit so that the seatbelt fit across their shoulder and on their hips, and if they needed a booster to do that they needed a booster. She said that kids should RF forever. I told her that Piper RFed until March and she gave Piper a high five.

The ped of my dreams!!!!!!!

We are soon moving to North Carolina ("big" move, from the Virginia border ).

Where is this pediatrician? I will drive anywhere in the state for someone like her!

OOh, I'm jealous.

Our ped and his staff usually look at me like I've got 3 heads when I would tell them things like RF to the limits of the seat, and staying in a harnessed seat as long as possible. :(

One can only hope that all pediatricians start touting the benefits of ERF and EH.

That's great! I'd love to find a ped like that. In this area, I'm just glad he doesn't give me too hard of a time about circ or skipping/delaying a vax here and there.

This ped also has skipped most of the vaxes for her 2 yo son until he's older. :) She also said she'd be happy to do a blood draw to make sure Piper's vaxes are still valid, rather than pumping her full of possibly unnecessary boosters right now.

i'm glad you found a ped that you like!

but i don't understand. none of you need carseat advice from your peds (since you're either an expert already or come here for expert advice), so why would you look specifically for ones who share your CPS views as opposed to a ped who knows pediatrics? that would be like me choosing a financial adviser because he had the same religion as i, shared the same diet beliefs, drove the same car, or had the same political opinions... i don't see the relevance? :shrug-shoulders:

I think she's just happy to know that a pediatrician out there is making good recommendations :)

OTOH, my pediatrician has never asked me about carseat use, although there is a chart on the wall about it. I just assumed it was because she able to telekinetically detect that I am a very smart carseat user :p

good job!

and yes it's nice to know they are giving good recommendations, because there ARE people who take the ped's word on everything even if it's not even remotely medical.

I doubt you'll ever find a post that says, "I found the greatest ped! she knows all about diagnosing an ear infection and can do a well baby check like no one else!" General pediatric knowledge and ability are simply expected and should be a given. There are other more subjective points on which to choose a pediatrician- those more related to parenting choices- that it helps to see eye to eye on.

Oh I didn't. I went to her because so many people recommended her, and looking on her website I saw that many of her philosophies were in line with my own. I asked about carseats as we were literally on our way out the door and I was just so shocked that she really is just that perfect that she even knows about carseats. :)

I don't think I ever asked our old ped about anything not medical. Never occurred to me to ask about carseats. But now I just thought I'd see what she thought and see if there was some educating that needed to be done. :) Nope!!

Woohoo! Glad you found a great pedi! I'm not on my kids' 4th pediatrician because of problems with them. I think I actually found one I'm liking :)

i can see the need to see eye-to-eye with your ped regarding parenting choices, definitely, but don't assume every ped has a well-rounded knowldege... it's definitely not a given. we "shopped" long and hard to find the ped we have, since so many peds we had heard about in our area didn't even seem to know the basics, or were too "green" to be comfortable diagnosing irritable little ones.

I got seriously lucky with my ped. I've heard some real horror stories. She takes every concern we have seriously, she's pro EBF, respects my decision to delay/selective vax, and is anti-circumcision and knows not to mess with Bean the First's penis.

I likey her
