Buying a used Ody?

Would it be a bad idea to buy a used Odyssey with 195,000 miles on it? We haven't actually seen it yet but from pictures it looks very clean, and it's only $3500. Which is right at the top of our price range unfortunately. I just don't know if I should avoid something like that with such high miles!

What year is it? The second generation (99-04) are known for having tranny problems, as in it'll eventually need a rebuilt one if it hasn't had one already. The Ody forum (odyclub.com) is a great place to go to get more info on this and other issues.

We found a '00 for $1000 (265,000 kms) that we knew was going to need a new tranny but we're prepared to put some money into it. If we put another $9000 into it into the next 4yrs it's still only half of what payments on a cheap, new (and smaller) vehicle would be.

If I had $3500 to spend on a minivan, I'd probably get an MPV instead. You can probably get a mechanically sound 2004 with less miles on it, for that price. Some people might have an issue with the distance from the glass in the back row, however.

What do you mean? Like the 3rd row is close to the back glass?
Either way it wouldn't be an issue we probably would never use the 3rd row lol.

The MPV and a couple other minivans have very little distance from the rear of the vehicle and the back seats. This may mean there's less protection in a rear-end collision for rear-row occupants.
