Can you have LATCH installed in the center position?

I've heard about people having LATCH installed in a car that didn't have it, can you have it done in the center of a car? I have a '07 Prius that I would like to have this done in.

There are only a few cars (VW and Audi, I believe) in which LATCH can be retrofitted. I think that VW and Audi only puts the LATCH in outboard positions too. I think...

According to Chrysler Dodge I can have my van retrofit with Latch and Tethers in 3 postions in the back and 2 in the middle. I am planning to have that done here after the new year. Should I not? I have 2 in carseats at the moment and 2 more soon to be in car seats.

Really? I wasn't aware that Chrysler/Dodge was retrofitting lower anchors. Hmmm...

Either you were misled and the dealership meant tether anchors,
OR
I am misinformed. :p

They are probably talking top tethers... lower anchors can NOT be retrofitted to dodge vehicles. Most dealers are a little clueless when it comes to child restraints and their terms. ;)

Well I guess I will call the 1800 number again and talk to them. they said they would do 3 of them for free and the other 2 would cost me like $100 for them to install.

Either way I guess I stil need to get Tether anchors put in, but that sucks if that is true.

What you have most likely heard of is people having tether anchors installed in pre-LATCH cars. Tether anchors are part of LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren). The lower anchors cannot be retrofitted, except for a very few auto makers that claim they will install them. However many dealers baulk at the liability issues associated. Tethers will enhance the crash performance of FF seats installed with a seatbelt however, so if you can have them installed, it's a good idea.
