What seat to use for airplane?

I will be traveling at the end of the year with my ~32 lb 36 in (then) 2.5 year old daughter. We rf in a MR at home, but I am not sure that it will work for travel. We will be flying Southwest and will have a rental car at the other end. Should I expect this to work on the plane? It is such a wide seat that it concerns me. I initially planned on getting a Scenera for the trip, but I am not sure she will fit now. She has about 2 inches until she will outgrow the MR rear facing. I do not really want to put a lot of money into another seat at this time when the MR will last us a long time at home- we expect it to last past 3 rf. We do not travel by plane often, so this will likely be the only time we need to use it.

What would you suggest for travel?

We flew with Southwest with a Nautilus and it *just* fit in the airplane seat. One of the planes I put the armrest down and the other it wouldn't work. I'm pretty sure the MR cupholders aren't any wider than the Nautilus cupholders so it would probably be fine, especially since the base is skinny, the width is all in the cupholders.

I would put it RF on the plane though ... FF the way that seat is I'm guessing she'd have no leg room.

Yeah, I'd just rear face her on the airplane with the armrest up, and potentially disregarding the level indicator.
