What carseat is best in an airplane?

We're taking a long flight with our 2-year-old soon. Our daughter is very tall (over 36 inches) and we travel frequently, always placing her in the Britax Roundabout on the plane (this is our travel carseat). Maybe this isn't the case on all planes or all airlines, but we've found that in the Roundabout, we can't fold-down the tray table so she can't color or do various activities in the seat.

Has anyone used a Radian or other carseat without a large base on the plane and had success with being able to fold down the tray table? Has anyone used the CARES system?

We will be taking our Radian on a plane on Thursday. Ask me about it then! I will probably be RF though, if I can fit in in the seat that way.

I have flown with a Roundabout and a Radian: the Radian was much easier, although I didn't RF as my daughter was over the RF-ing weight limits.

Editing to add: we were able to put the tray table down. It was Southwest.

The Radian is SUPER easy to install FF on an airplane and the tray table folds down all the way perfectly.

I highly doubt it would fit RF on an airline because of it's long front to back profile.

Our Marathon *just* fits RF and the Radian is a couple extra inches longer front to back.

I don't know how much she weighs, but if you want another 40# seat, you cant beat the Evenflo Chase for flying convienience. It works perfectly in the plane, tray table down, and I strap it to a 14$ luggage roller from Walmart, strap DD in, and roll it through the airport - and on big planes, even right to the seat (then store the roller overhead). For 60$ - you can't go wrong unless she is close to 40#'s.
