How do I know if I have 4 wheel drive?

I have an '05 Tribute. The owners manual says 'if equipped.' It's intelligent and continually monitors conditions. There's an indicator light that I've only seen illuminated when I start the car.

My moms Escape had auto 4WD that switched on if needed, and there was a button you could push to force it into 4WD. The buttons are obvious.

Most cars I see on the road with AWD or 4WD have it written on the back of the vehicle under the name or trim level. If it doesn't say Tribute AWD or Tribute 4WD on the back, then you probably don't have it. Your registration or title might also mention if there is AWD or 4WD along with the trim level as well.

You should also be able to easily see the drivetrain components for the rear wheels from underneath. If you don't know what to look for, any "car guy" type should be able to tell you in under a minute. Surprisingly, I couldn't find a single photo of it on the Escape or Tribute using Google Images.
