Train?

My son and I will be taking a 6 hour train ride next week. Do I need to bring his booster seat (huge and bulky) or no?

That depends. Do you need it when you get there? There are no seatbelts on the train, so you're not able to use it on board, but if you're getting into a car at the other end, then yes.

How old and heavy is your son, and what big and bulky booster does he ride in?

If you tell us his age, weight, torso height, we might be able to suggest a lighter travel seat.

If you feel he'd do ok in a booster you could take a booster with you (as in, not your combination seat). Are you going to be in the car a lot? You could get an Evenflo Maestro, and sell it after this trip (50 pound limit), or get a Ride Safer Travel Vest, or if he'd sit properly and you won't be in the car a bunch you can use a backless booster.

We will be in the car some, mainly just from the train station to the house, maybe a couple blocks to friends homes, that is about it.

If it's short trips in the car only, I'd probably just bring a backless booster, as long as he'll have head support behind him. You can use the bottom of the Nautilus, or pick up something like a Harmony Lite Rider ($13.50).
