Question AOE RF in the center in a Toyota Prius?

My husband just installed our new convertible Safety 1st Alpha Omega Elite in my Toyota Prius for our 1 year old, rear facing, in the back seat on the passenger side. He could not get a good install in the center. There is a hump in the seat there and so you cannot tighten the car seat enough to keep it from flopping around. It wasn't as bad with our infant seat (which we kept in the center), but it did flop some. Is there a way to install the AOE in the center? I understand that is safer than a side. Should we get a different seat?

Sorry for the delay in responding. No, I have not tried without the base - I didn't know you could. You can?

As an update, I hate this carseat. We have it on the passenger side in the back seat, rear facing, and even with a towel under it my daughter still flops forward whenever she falls asleep in the car. The line that shows where it should be reclined is still way off level. I think the Prius back seats angle heavily up - ? I would return the carseat but she vomited in it. :) AND I don't yet know how to clean the fabric because the harness goes through the cover so I'd have to dismantle the harness just to clean it. I need to look at the owners manual for that. But the owners manual does not help me with the angle of it, or potentially putting it in the center.

I'm not an expert in car seats, but I'm not an idiot. Her infant car seat was great. But this car seat really stumps me.

If you have the 50 pound version I don't think you can remove the base. The 40 pound versions you can. The 40 and 50 pounds refers to the harness limit. It doesn't go to 100 pounds with a harness.

You don't need the line level to the ground for a one year old, and her head flopping forward is not a safety issue at her age, just a comfort one. If she's not upset, I wouldn't worry.

Can you install it in the middle and take pictures for us to see?

I like pool noodles better then towels. The rule of thumb is 3 of the small pool noodles in a triangle is max. Taping them together helps. The large pool noodles are nice to but I won't use more then 1 or 2 next to each other.

Like Wendy said - your seat rf to 35#, ff to 40# or 50# in the harness and boosters to 100#. No 100# kid will fit in it as a booster and I wouldn't use it as a booster anyway. In testing it was a poor fit. Back to the 40# vs 50# version. The 40# you can remove the base but you can't use the top setting in harness mode. The top setting is for booster mode only. The 50# version you can't remove the base (unless the manual says) and you can use the top harness setting in the 5-point mode.

Have you cleaned the seat? How did you clean the straps?
