Side air bag curtains

My 2002 Volvo V40 has side air curtains that come down from the backseat windows. It does not say in the manual where to place a child saftey seats in relation to this. I have had it in the middle, but after reading some posts, I'm concerned that this is unsafe.

Does anyone know the answer?

The center spot is the first choice for safety, as long as the child seat installs correctly there. You must also make sure the center position is allowed in the owners manuals; sometimes there are compatibility issues.

It is also usually OK to place a carseat next to a side impact airbag, given the same constraints. In most cases, the side airbags will add to the safety of a properly restrained passenger in the outboard seating position.
