Question Evenflo Titan Elite RF install

My MIL has an Evenflo Titan Elite for our son and I had a hard time installing that RF in her car (2004 Dodge Neon). It doesn't really wiggle from side to side, but it does rather easily tip forward to the back of the seat--like the baby would faceplant against the back of the car's seat if he were sitting in the Evenflo, and I can't imagine that's a good thing. I have a Britax Boulevard in my car and it doesn't move like that. The instruction manual says it shouldn't move around where LATCH belt is, but it doesn't say anything about the top of the seat tipping forward toward the back of the seat like that. Maybe I didn't pull the LATCH belt tightly enough? I'm going to have DH see if he can get it tighter, but carseats shouldn't be able to tip like that right?

Moved to installations.

That's fine. You only check for movement at the belt path. Movement at the head is fine. Only Britax and Sunshine Kids allow rear facing tethering. All other seats will rebound into the backseat.

However, that's not a concern. First, it's the rebound, not the initial collision (unless you're hit from behind at 65 mph). Second, the backseat is designed to be impacted by a 200 pound man. It's padded. Third, the shell of the seat will move back with your baby, and if they're in nice and snug only their nose or so will stick beyond the shell. So your baby's soft binkable nose will rebound into a padded surface. Not a big deal.

Wendy, thanks so much! My Britax actually isn't tethered but the rebound on it is like 3 inches, if that. There isn't anything to tether it to while it's rearfacing, or if there is, I don't know about it. [I wish I could find a carseat tech in my area though, we checked when DS was born 13 months ago and there really weren't any around Wilkes-Barre, PA. I should check again.]

I'm glad to know I didn't totally fail with the Titan!

What car do you drive? Most cars have someplace to which to tether the seat. But you need to use the D ring that comes with the carseat. Unless you have a Volvo or some Fords, you won't have dedicated rear facing tether anchors.

You can see if any techs from the board are in your area. http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?t=59135&highlight=technician

There's also one technician listed on the Safe Kids (the certifying body's) website.

Wendy, I drive a Kia Optima. It has tether anchors on the top of the back seat so I will be able to tether when I turn my son forward facing but it doesn't have tether anchors on the floor. There are no techs on the board in my area but I will be calling the one you listed, thanks so much for that information I appreciate it!

No, there wouldn't be tether anchors on the floor. Forward facing is a long way off right now. Just use the D ring like in the video to make a tether point. That's why Britax includes it, since they know most cars don't have rear facing tether points.
