Community Forum Purge

Due to some ongoing issues with the database related to its large size, the community forums will be purged of old threads. Anything older than 6 months could be deleted. If there is an old thread of particular interest due to good information within, please feel free to bump it. The purge could be as early as this weekend, but probably the following weekend. There may be a small downtime on Saturday or Sunday morning for this purpose, possibly more than one morning as it takes time to purge that many threads.

There may be some slowness as I purge the community forums of older posts. Instead of turning off all the forums, I intend to turn off the community forums one-by-one as I purge them.

I just had a when i saw scm was gone. I was like i'm barely here to be in trouble. Whew.

Unfortunately it seems turning off the main community forum also turns off all subforums, too, sorry! It should only be a few hours! I estimate noon central time Sunday, plus or minus an hour.

Ok, I freaked out. I thought it was the app on my phone, so I went to my iPod. It still wasn't working so I came here. I thought maybe we were in so much trouble the entire community area was gone. I couldn't imagine what had gone that bad overnight.

Well, maybe there is something to be said for turning the entire forum off with a maintenance message lol.

I think right now may be the time to ask for any favors you had in mind. "No community forums until I receive chocolate cupcakes and tickets to Disneyland".

Well, it's nice to be able to view the rest of the board, PMs and everything while you're doing the forum purge.

The purge and maintenance are finished. SCM was purged to the usual 6 months. The other community forums were purged of all posts from 2008 and earlier.

Hopefully, with this maintenance and purge, combined with a change made overnight by the provider and especially with an upgrade that should take place next month, the forums will run much smoother with fewer errors and slow periods during the day.

I didn't even think of bumping the ma/britax cover thread...I snoozed and losed. Thanks for the purging though...we needed it.

I don't think Carseat Chat was purged, just Community Chat and its subforum.

Correct. Only the private community forums were purged. The public forums are generally never purged, though it is possible that the shopping forums may be purged in the future.

The community forums are down temporarily as the purge continues. I anticipate they will be back up by 11am central time, if not earlier.

ETA is now 10am central time. The community forums have been purged to 1.5 years back, 6 months for the senior community member forum. There will also be a short downtime affecting the entire forum that should last only about 15 minutes.

Thank you for your patience! Combined with the upgrade in service later this month, the smaller database should make for a significant improvement in speed and reliability of the forums.

Wow, I really thought I was losing it. First the quote button disappeared, and then one minute I was looking at CMC and the next minute it had disappeared as well! It was like an internet twilight zone! Glad to know I'm not just crazy even though we all know that's at least part of it.
