I was leaving work today and my co-worker's wife came to pick him up and was waiting in front of our building. He had the door open to the back seat of their SUV and I saw his 3 year-old grandson sitting in the back seat, no car seat, just seat belted in. I had no idea how to approach him. I probably should have said something right there, but I didn't know how he or his wife would react. So I just hoped that they'd be safe on the drive home and figured I'd think about how I would bring it up with him tomorrow.
I just want to say something to him in a helpful way, not making him feel bad. I think he would be receptive. I know he cares for his grandson very much just by how he talks about him all the time, shows us pictures and how proud he is when he brings him in. I just hope that his grandson isn't being transported this way in his mother's car.
What is the best way to bring this up with him? Something like "I saw you as we were leaving work yesterday and I happened to see that you had J with you but noticed he wasn't in a car seat . . ." But then what? I've been thinking about this ever since I left work!
