Britax marathon DOM 2004

Hi,
I was given a Britax marathon with a DOM of 2004 by a friend, I am sure it has been cared for properly but I feel very hesitant to use it. I only discovered that it was a 2004 DOM after they gave it to my husband for us, my friend thinks I am being silly about not wanting to use it but I think she isnt informed about when they expire, also she told me it was refacing to 48 pounds which I knew not to be true.
So, I guess my question is; Am I being ridiculous to not want to use this seat?
TIA
:(

No, you are absolutely correct. It has at most another what, 2 weeks of life? I'd keep the cover and throw the seat away.

Agreed. Your child's life is more important than your friend's feelings. You can always let them know you consulted a number of carseat technicians and they all said the same thing--it has expired.

Thanks for all input!
I feel right about my decision to not use it.
Its weird how people seem to think that just because something is free that it should be used and we should be thankful for it.
I did tell her that I consulted this board, certified technicians and parents in the know about these things, she said that techs are paid to say dont use it.....I asked if she would put her son in an expired seat and she said oh yes, knowing where it came from, as if that makes a difference.
Bottom line is my child's safety is worth much more than hurting someones feelings.
Anyway, I will keep the cover, *great idea*, and the seat will go in the garbage!

Um Darren? Are you there? Where's my payment for posting that car seats that have a 6 year lifespan really do expire after ::drum roll please:: 6 years?

OP, you are correct for not using an expired seat for your child. The cover however can be saved. :)

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvCRz7BRAM0"]I'd show her the expired utube car seat utube video...[/ame] next time she is over. And, then that [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTSJ6XdOotk"]new Health Canada car seats expire commercial![/ame]. Though, the government may just be trying to stimulate the economy!LOL

My dh keeps telling me to get certified, so I can get paid for what I know, and I don't know half what the techs do, if I got paid for answering questions, I'd be rich! LOL

Wonder who she thinks *pays* them? LOL
