As a spinoff to my thread about the Police concert and that I have met Sting, I thought it might be fun to see who else famous we might have met as a group.

I have met/gotten autographs from:
1. Sting (of the Police)
2. Liz Taylor (in a restaurant)
3. Neil Patrick Harris (used to be "Doogie Howser, MD on TV)
4. Gilda Radner (of the original SNL cast)

can't think of anyone else at the moment.......

Oooh, cool :)

I used to live with Tom Selleck's private secretary (I was a kid, she and my mom were friends, almost everyone in Hawaii lives with a couple families per house, because rent is over the moon there, lol)... She used to sign his pictures and send them out to adoring fans who thought they were getting his real autograph (tsk tsk...). He got a LOT of mail, that's for sure.... :D

when I was in high school, I went to London and saw Yul Brenner in the King and I at the London Paladium Theatre. I got his autograph (does that count?) Also, I met Patrick Swayze, Tommy Lee Jones, Charlise Theron, and that gal who played the mom in the remake of the parent trap on the movie set for 'Waking up in Reno' (Natasha Richardson??). And I was an extra in a movie that was shot in Groom, Texas about an evangelist that starred Steve Martin (can't think of the name of the movie...):) :)

- Kenny Rogers (yes, I'm aging myself! He lived in Athens GA for a long time. When I was a freshman at UGA, I saw him at McD's and went over and got his autograph on a McD's napkin)

- Larry Byrd, Tommy Smothers, Lorenzo Lamas, and Isiah Thomas (at a charity event at Kenny Rogers' house - I even gave Larry Byrd and his bodyguard a ride in my Pontiac Sunbird from one venue to the other - he didn't fit so well...)

- Michael Stipe (he could be seen all over Athens - I never talked to him but stood next to him for awhile while shopping at the Junkman's Daughter's Brother)

- Al Gore (at a campaign speech in Athens)

- Cynthia McKinney (former congresswoman from GA - worked with her to help ban a lead smelter from coming to my hometown)

ETA:
- Trisha Yearwood (a former boyfriend grew up with her so we got to meet her backstage after a show)

I got autographs from Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Trace Beaulieu, but I'm not sure they count as famous. In fact, if those names mean anything to anyone here, I'll be surprised. (no fair running off to google ;) )

I walked into Kim Cattrall in a hallway once, but I can't really call that meeting her.

My great-grandmother was an extra in a Clint Eastwood movie but I don't think that makes her famous, although she did get to speak a line :)

And I almost got close enough to shake Jimmy Carter's hand after a speech.

So no, I guess I haven't met anyone famous. I've met not-so-famous people, and almost met famous people. So close! lol!

I saw Robin Williams on the beach in Hawaii.

There wasn't many other people there (as in, he wasn't surrounded) but I didn't say hi or anything, because it looked like he just wanted to enjoy his trip, you know.

My brother shook Arnold Schwartzawhatever's hand 2 weeks ago at a wrestling tournament(?) and Arnold complemented my brother (!!!) on his wrestling skills (and correctly too... my bro had wrestled with a dude out his weight group, and pinned him, and Arnold said something about it how good he was, taking down a guy who weighed so much more or something.) He didn't get a pic though.

On the subject of Arnold... does anybody else love the Arnold Hummer from the movie Cars? Disney/Pixar should really make an Arnold matchbox. He's cool.

Sat on a plane (in first class) next to Shannon Miller, the US olympic gymnast. Talked a little, but left her alone for the most part. Could tell she just wanted to rest.

Sat across the aisle (another plane) from Michael Jordan (NBA). He was getting hounded by everyone, so I just left him alone too.

Shook Rudy Guiliani's hand at a rally.

Was within arms reach of a lot of others.

Bill Murray and his family came in to eat at the restaurant where I worked in college. ( He left me a note on the placemat and told me to drive safe on my way back to school!)

I just saw the Woody and Buzz cars at Target this week, so maybe they make an Arnold one, too?!!

We have the Buzz and Woody and the ones from Monsters, Inc. and Hamm, from Toy Story.

Okay, we have all of them, every Lightening, Sally, Ramone (there are 3), Doc, Luigi, Guido, the Tractor, all of them. There I said it. We are toy-aholics.

But they don't have the Arnold or the Jay Leno, which sucks.

Believe me, I've looked. Probably a royalty issue... they'd probably have to pay Arnold to make a car with his likeness... but they own Buzz and Woody, so no biggy.

I sold some makeup to "Winnie Cooper" (Danica McKellar) from The Wonder Years when I was Snr. Asst. Mngr. at www.thebodyshop.com in Montclair, Cali....

Also, James Madio ordered me a drink on an airplane in 1st class when I was 17 -- wasn't interested in him, but the drink was nice  :p

Hmmm, under the "met" category, I was introduced once to Barbara Bush while she was First Lady. Probably because I was the only female cop working the detail and she wanted to pop into the powder room after the flight so I needed to stand by the door. Perhaps it would have been rude if she had completely ignored me or the base commander wanted to point out how 'integrated' the military was in 1989-1990.

It was a very strange moment because I had worked 100+ details for VIPs and always been invisible.
I saw a lot of dignitaries during those 5 years, but never talked with them except for her.

I met Billy Baldwin and most of the cast of 'Spin City' at a Breast Cancer fundraiser in Soho, bumped into Kyra Sedgewick (literally:eek: ) in Central Park...
she was VERY NICE! I also taught the children of Katie Couric (Caroline) and the Fashion Editor? of Vogue (DD's name was Francesca), but I only met Katie Couric's nanny (she was wonderful!).
Also, Minnie Driver.
I did see a lot of famous people while living in NYC
but most of them I did not talk to.

My husband had lunch with President Bush (right place, right time) last month. He was with 2 friends from work and one of them has a fairly popular blog and talks about it here. My DH is Ben.

Hey Adventure mom---when did you graduate from UGA? I graduated in '94, and lived there for another year after that. :) Go Dawgs!

I haven't met anyone famous---George Clooney is here in town filming, but I haven't seen him. My DH has a few times, but he's out to dinner more than I am....

Bah, movie stars. :p lol Just kidding.

A long-time friend of ours was a stage actress for years and years, and had parts with some big name stars, but she suffered a really bad fall about the time she started getting famous. She told me the other day that it worked out in the end because she's a research historian now and she HATED being well known. Unfortunately  , she's VERY good at what she does, so now she's having to write privacy clauses into her contracts.

As far as politicians, I've known several. Doug Wilder has been a casual acqaintance (sp) for years though Cam's work. We've know him since CJ was in diapers. He's sweet, and very much a "good ol' boy."

Oh, I came close to being a lifelong student... :p I graduated in 1990, worked a year, then went to grad school from 1991-1998 (the last three years were spent trying to finish a dissertation that never got finished, and by then I had moved up to Virginia during that time.). I LOVE Athens! It's one of the few places I really feel like I could live and stay forever. We spent a few days there last summer - the first time I'd been in several years: it has really changed!

Also wanted to add that after making my post above, I feel asleep with a terrible migraine headache and in my migraine stupor had a dream that I forgot to tell you guys that I had met Payne Stewart and Maya Angelou. Really weird dream b/c I had met Payne Stewart but have not met Maya Angelou... (I met him at the event I volunteered for at Kenny Rogers' house, and also at The Masters Golf Tournament where I worked one year and got to escort alot of the golf players as they came through the #6 green and on to the #7 tee - I was a gallery guard and got to wear a yellow hardhat, keep people away from the players, and shout, "FORE!" whenever a ball was headed into the gallery :p ).

And I met Billy Graham at a conference a long time ago.

:)
