Just curious, what are the reasons some babies need car beds?

I know there is a medical reason why a small number of infants need to be transported in car beds, I'm just not sure what that reason is. Anyone know? And where would the parents get a car bed, I've never seen one for sale at any baby stores or websites?

Car beds are generally only available through special medical needs order or through the hospital because they are significantly less safe than proper rear facing infant seats or convertibles.

Babies need a car bed if they are likely to suffer severe hypoxia in the semi-crouched position of a car seat, and need to be lying flat to breathe properly.

Also, some babies (such as those with certain craniofacial disorders) need to be transported lying on their stomachs instead of their backs.

Usually it is an infant with birth defects or disabilities: apnea, spina bifida, those that have had/need surgery and need to remain flat and can not tolerate an upright position.

Extremely hypertonic or casted children that cannot be bent at the waist

They do car seat challenge with preemies and some other infants, where they place them in car seats and if their oxygen drops they have to ride in a car bed. That's probably one of the most common reasons.

Just curious, what are the reasons some babies need car beds?
