I got a call back from Gayle today. I want to know if the 'belt guides' are required when doing a seatbelt install in the Signo. Of course the manual is not clear, especially since they now refer to them as 'belt guides' instead 'belt clamp.'
Gayle says that yes routing the belt through both guides is a requirement. Ok great. No problem. So I asked about the picture with the lap belt only install, and how it shows it is routed over the guide. She put me on hold and came back with no, you don't need route through the guides with a lap belt only install but that a top tether is required. Um. No. This is rear-facing. Certainly you can use the lap belt only to install the Signo and they don't allow rear-face tethering.
So she says ok, yes you don't need to use the tether with a rear-facing lap belt only install, but you must use it for a forward-facing install. Of course top tether is recommended for all forward-facing install, but are you saying that is specific requirement to a lap belt install? She says yes. That it is a requirement for FF install with a lap belt and LATCH, but NOT for a 3 point seat belt install.
After arguing with her I decided to just let it go. How can I trust the belt guide answer if the other information is incorrect? Has anybody been successful in getting their questions answered from someone at Recaro?
