I am very confused after reading the manual. On page 62, it states that the NTSA has published a list of carseats , specific makes and models, that must be used to be in compliance of the advanced airbag system. All the seats they list are OLD and a prob expired. I am also concerned about having my seats outboard. Is it safe if there are side curtain airbags?

I am not familiar with the list you mention. Can you link it or copy/photo it, please?

Beyond that, my suggestion is to look up your vehicle at the www.safercar.gov website. Once you have the page with detailed results for your model, scroll down to the "AIR BAGS" section. The third row is "SAB Out Of Position Testing". If the result is "Meets Specification", then you should have no issues with side air bags for a properly restrained child in the back seat. I show that the 2010 Jetta does meet the specifications. Here is the link, but sometimes they don't work because the NHTSA changed their website a while back and the direct links are funky.
