After two years of planning I have finally gotten a wonderful group of people to help do a car seat check at a low income school in my area. We currently have 70 children signed up to receive new seats and have them installed tomorrow and then around 10 car seat checks. I am so excited because all the new seats came from a donor and we wouldn't have been able to do it without them. These families really need this. We have 7 CPST's and a handful of school staff to help make all this happen between 9am-until the last one is done. Right now we have set up a install time for each family and hope that it helps keep everything moving smoothly.

Wow, fabulous! Congrats.

I was thinking when I read the title that you were going to do them all yourself! Which is just mindblowing. I find after about 10 or 13 seats I'm sore. Course, the one time I've done that many I was also significantly pregnant, so I'm sure that didn't help.

Way to go! Have fun. :) I hope tomorrow is really satisfying. Seventy kids. That is amazing and wonderful.

yay for the donor and yay for all you guys who worked to organize it and will be doing the work that day getting them set up and teaching the parents to install them!

What seats are you giving away (curiosity is nagging me to ask)

We installed Cosco convert. and Evenflo forward facing seats only, then we installed no back Evenflo boosters. I haven't looked at the totals yet but we are thinking that we did around 78 installs total if not more. We had 7 techs and a handfull of volunteers to help make things run smoothly. Parents did try to get more then they signed up for. The school is off the beaten path so unless the child went to the school they didn't know about it.

The school had a Health Expo and we did the check point as part of the expo. Parents were asked a week before the expo if they needed seats and the age, weight and height of their children. Based on the info they gave us we decided what seat was best for them. We did keep 11 seats that where so back and what not that the parents agreed to let us have them. Alot of parents showed up with NO seat at all for alot of their children. The school is a low income program so most of the students parent can't afford seat to begin with. Its not uncommon for us to have to find seats for them to begin with. However most parents just didn't know better or care to know better until today. It was such a joy to see so many children going home safer then they arrived today.

Wow, what a great community service. Wonderful job to you, the donor, the other techs & volunteers. And good job to the parents smart enough to sign up for help.

sounds absolutely great! I was worried you'd have had to go with the cosco ff only seats... evenflos are a much better option... I know money is always an issue and was more curious as to what you were able to pull off.

sounds like all the kids left much safer than they came... fantastic job on all counts and a wonderful generous donor!

Hey, I got the email about this check (and about the outcome). I would have loved to have participated, but I was at Disney. I live in Ohio, but my parents are in Pensacola. The past two trips I've been unable to participate in the checks because we have been on a cruise or at Disney. I am glad it went well!
