RSTV for travel

I just purchased a RSTV for my daughter to use in the summer, when we fly to Slovakia. I am just wondering, to those that use it, or have used it, how was your child afterwards, getting back into their regular carseat? DD will be a month shy of 5, and I am very nervous about her response to using it for 3 weeks, and then going back into her Frontier once we get back to Canada. I'm worried that she will reject her regular seat because the vest is so different and more "grown-up." Did anyone have any issues with this?

I haven't used the vest long-term, but my kids find it more confining than a regular 5 point harness. I think I am the only one on here, but I hate the RSTV! I don't think you will have a problem switching back.

My kids like it but I make it clear beforehand "this is not your seat for everyday. This is only for [in my case, usually Grandma's car; in your case, travel.]" Setting out the rules beforehand makes it much easier. :)

My daughter who's 5 also rides in a Nautilus, the vest, a Regent, and an air booster (when with grandma somedays) all in the same day everyday :D

She doesn't complain about going from the vest to the Regent, but she knows she has to ride what is in the vehicle she is in.

I don't think you should have any issues. Maybe try using the vest on occasion before the trip and switching her back and forth so she gets used to doing both.

I lent the vest to a friend for a trip and her son hated it so much... he was happy to get back in the 5 point harness :p.

Oh awesome, that sounds a lot better than I was expecting. I will definately tell her in advance that it's only for the trip, etc. I would totally let her use it a few times before we go, but it's illegal here:rolleyes: So hopefully it will be ok. How much movement do they get in comparison to a carseat? Can they bend over or anything? Or does it keep them in place as much as a 5-point?

They can't move at all. The shoulder belt clip is a lockoff. You thread the lap belt through, pull it tight, and then thread the shoulder belt through, and they really cannot move (well, except arms and legs of course.) It truly is equivalent to a wearable 5 point harness.

Oh good. It actually just arrived 2 days ago, and I haven't looked at it yet, but I will definately have to practice in the next few months.
