2009 Subaru Outback with Pet Barrier

I have a 2009 Subaru Outback and have the factory pet barrier installed. The pet barrier utilizes the center latch point and blocks the usage of the other two latch points. My wife is due in June and I have been given the task of finding a compatible car seat. Does anyone have any recommendations for a car seat that does not require the use of the latch points that are located on the ceiling in the rear of the car.
Thanks,
Dave

Congrats and welcome!

You're in luck! No rear facing seats use the tether points (well, the Britaxes can, but it's a PITA). And since children should be rear facing for the first four years it's not a big deal for you for a long time to come.

Since the world is your oyster, would you like an infant seat or a convertible seat for the new baby? What is your budget? Do you have any special needs (travel, specific stroller, the pet in the back drools buckets and you need something water resistant)?

I'd like to bump this and ask if any Subaru-savvy techs have experience with these cargo barriers. Bear with me if this is discussed elsewhere. I'm new to the forum and I have tried searching. Existing threads don't seem to specifically answer this dilemma.

I will be rear-facing our guy for a while yet, but it appears that the pass-through in the OEM cargo barrier for the center passenger belt may accommodate top tethering in the outboard position. I also notice that the part for Outbacks without a moon roof (Compartment Separator/Dog Guard w/o Moonroof - part no. F551SAG600) does not have the same disclaimer about LATCH as the one for cars with.

It seems the OEM barrier would be perfect to protect from (light) loose odds and ends. Obviously heavy cargo should still be securely tied down. Also, crates would be less than ideal for our retired greyhound or for multiple dogs.

Those barriers are not compatible with top tether use. When you turn your child FF, I would recommend having the barrier removed so that you can utilize the important top tether safety feature on your child restraint.

I wish they were compatible with the tether...if so I would have one in each of our Subarus! :).
