Question about seat position

We have an 09 Jetta which we are installing our blvd seat in for our 11 month old daughter who is about 20lbs. Our question is how close can the seatbacks be to the back of the seat? I imagine there should be room and not pushed up against it but how much room is generally needed?

We are hoping to put her in the middle, but havent measuredf the distance between each side latch to see if the we can use them for the middle yet.

Thanks!

Does your '09 Jetta allow you to use LATCH in the centre seating position, per the manual?

There are two theories when it comes to distance between the seatback and your child's carseat--either far enough that they don't strike each other with any force, or touching so that they move together or rotation is limited (so-called "bracing".) Nobody really knows which is the better way to go. Some vehicles have restrictions and don't allow bracing, due to front occupant protection systems. This should be in your vehicle manual and if you have that restriction I suppose you also have an answer :).

Just keep in mind that your 11 month old can be more upright than the newborn 45 degree angle when you're installing the Boulevard.

Volkswagon does not allow borrowing of the centre UAS anchors. If you want to install the seat in the middle position, you must use the seatbelt.
