We just watched it last night- what a great documentary- and I am stunned that we have been given misleading MISinformation for so long. I applaud Al Gore an his lifelong passion to bring this matter the attention it deserves! Rent it!!!

It's on my "to-do" list of movies to rent, I really want to see it soon. Hmm, where is that Blockbuster coupon I printed out? :)

excellent documentary. as a scientist, i was especially taken aback at how our bush administration officials censored peer-reviewed scientific papers providing evidence of global warming.

and to think just how close we came to having an environmental president... :(

Yeah, it's so reminiscent of "Soviet censorship" isn't it alarming? I voted for Gore, and would again in a heartbeat. I am so excited, my son will be able to vote in 2008- he's turning 18 this year!!!!!!!! Woohoo, another voting age democrat in the house!!!!!

And the most embarrassing action by a school district this week is (Drum roll please) :

Federal Way (Washington) for banning any viewing of "An Inconvenient Truth" in schools for -- get this -- not presenting a balanced argument against the global warming premise within the film

The parents who didn't want their child to see this in school, had never watched it themselves and believe it has a "Bad America, Bad America" opinionated slant, so it shouldn't be viewed by students.

My mom told me this on the phone this morning and I couldn't believe it of my home state!
Sure enough: Federal Way Schools restrict Gore's film There it is in print and we'll be the butt of everyone's jokes now  :( .

I haven't seen it yet, but I plan on doing so within the next month. I'll admit it, I voted for Gore too. He might have been a bit poncy at times, but I'll take the pedantic intellectual anyday over the Gentleman's C, Jock, Party student who proudly admits he never reads newspapers or books (until very recently). ;)

I've seen it. It made me so sad

Although my original decision to cloth diaper had nothing to do with the environment  (I was mainly into the $$ factor and the health benefits), after watching that movie I was really proud to be a CDer. :D I don't remember the exact stats, but I think that 1/3 or 1/4 of our landfills are diapers and that each child contributes 1 ton of waste by the time they potty train. Diapers don't break down, and also they leach fecal matter into the soil and water supply.

I also wash my own diapers (as opposed to a service) and only use baking soda and vinegar to do laundry so I'm not contributing detergent chemicals. People have argued that it uses water, but the 2-3 loads a week of diapers I wash is about the same amount of water as as extra person using the toilet (ie when they potty train)

We are planning on having 3 or 4 kids, so that's 3 or 4 tons of waste I am saving!
I also breastfeed which saves the environment from chemicals (from manufacturing the formula) and tons of plastic.
We are TV free so I'm sure that's a ton of electricity we save.

I can't really think of anything else we do to help. But I feel like I am doing the best to "do my part".

But yea, the whole situation makes me really sad for my children and grandchildren :(

get this -- not presenting a balanced argument
Like, "fair & balanced" ... while airing at least 4 dozen hours of Bush, but not even 1 dozen hours of the other guy during presidential race   My dad doesn't believe in Global Warming -- he also has chosen only to hear the scientists paid off by the gov't without letting me share anything I learned in my Environmental Science class & he refuses to watch An Unconvenient Truth, too.... I saw it in the theater & enjoyed the presentation, would love to have the book as well.

The worst part for us is that some things we can't change in our family. My husband has a long commute to work which adds up to about 30,000 miles a year on his vehicle....We live in a small town, and his job is one of the only ones like it in a huge radius and there is NO public transportation. We can't move closer to his job - can't afford the real estate in that area, plus and it is a very high crime/high pollution area as well where he works. So we are stuck until he retires in 4-5 yrs. Yeah, he's in his 50's.

This country really lacks enough public transport- in Europe, no matter how small the town, there are buses and trains. You barely need a car. Here we rely on driving too much.

We also have an electric- heat home which costs us less than oil heat now, but still adds to the problem because none (?) of our electricity is from green sources. Plus, our fuel efficiency on our vehicles is HALF of other nations!!! That is unbelievable.....

My son saw the movie in theaters with all his friends. The kids around here are all very liberal-minded!

I would be all over public transportation if it fit my schedule: drive 20-30 mins to Leila's school, drive 45+ mins to my school, back to Leila's, back home, back to my school, back home again @@ But, the schedule doesn't mesh well so I'm stuck spending $$$$$$$$$$ on poor gas mileage *SIGH*

we drive our car less than 8,000 miles annually (and it's a PZEV-rated car, same EPA classification as a hybrid in terms of emmissions output), take public transportation to work, and walk locally for most of our daily errands. being that this area is so liberal, about 1 in 10 cars you see here are hybrids.

then again, we're living in cramped quarters without a useable yard or driveway, we b*tch and moan about climbing two flights of stairs with the kids and accoutrements, and having to deal with the hustle and bustle of the city. so there's always a tradeoff, i suppose.

I really like that movie.

I watched it alone at night and I *swear* I had heart palpatations.
I know I have a tendency to freak out, but I still felt like a mega-wuss.
I classify it as a HORROR movie. Too scary.

It did prompt me to look into re-insulating my attic, replacing my windows, reducing my overall level of consumerism, and putting my airconditioning to less work.

Yes, global warming -- Barnes & Noble has the book out now as does all 4 college book stores that I've checked (who also have the movie, but so far only for classes, I think)....
