My aunt called me today to ask if I wanted their carseats as spares as my cousins are all in boosters now. I politely declined as I remember going shopping for those seats with my mom in 1992!

Anyways, it got me thinking about the seat. I remember my aunt asking me to install it once for her in my moms car (ummm....I was 12. Why did she think that was a good idea) and I remember I could never get it to turn (it turned back and forth I think for RFing and FFing) and to install it was weird. The belt didn't go through a "normal" belt path like we think of it.

I knew I had a pic of her in it. I can only take a picture of the picture so it's bad, but anyone know what this seat is? This would be around age 3 so 1995ish

It's a Renolux. BAD, bad seats. They were all recalled for several issues, I can't remember right now what the exact reasons were.

When my oldest was a baby her sitter wanted to take her to the store and told me she had a seat she could use. I asked to see it, it was a Renolux sans cover. Yuck.

I believe it had to do with fire retardant on the cover and the buckles coming unlatched.

I wonder what it was recalled for. She seriously used these until last year. Wow.

Ah, here's some info about the recalls.

CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEM FAILED TO MEET PRE-IMPACT BUCKLE RELEASE FORCE REQUIREMENTS AND BACK SUPPORT ANGLE REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS 213.

THE TWEED CAR SEAT COVER FABRIC DOES NOT MEET THE MINIMUM FLAMMABILITY REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 213, "CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEMS."

THE CHILD SAFETY SEATS DO NOT MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS 213, "CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEMS." THE PADDING BEHIND THE HEAD OF THE SEAT OCCUPANT DOES NOT HAVE SUFFICIENT COMPRESSION DEFLECTION RESISTANCE.

CHILD RESTRAINTS HAVE STRIPED SEAT COVERS WHICH FAILED THE FLAMMABILITY REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS 213.

And eek on her using these seats so long! Even if they hadn't been crappy seats, they are way past expired. I believe they were made until 1994.

Yeah.....if I had known she was using them I would have said something. I couldn't believe she still was using them after 15 years! I just never thought to look and see what seats they have. Man oh Man...I wonder what they looked like after 15 years of continuous use!

I would tell her you would take them off her hands. Then destroy them. Saves someone else's kids being in them

When I figured out they were my older cousin's seats I told her to destroy them. She had no clue about expired seats and assured me she would. I don't live near enough to her to get them :(

You know, when the Avatar came out, lots of us said, Gee, that looks like a Renolux :D

So the time range is off, but your guess is actually pretty close

Yep, LOL. I was the first one to review the Avatar on ivillage, and I believe what I said was "If the Renolux Turnatot got together with a Century Smart move, the Avatar would be their baby."
