Nuna Pipa strap tightening problems

In order to tighten the straps of the Nuna Pipa I have to first pull on the straps along the hips and then use the tightening strap to remove the remaining slack to get a proper strap fit overall. The problem is that if I don't first remove some slack from hip area, the adjuster strap won't move when I pull it, like it is stuck. Even when I first remove slack from hips, the tightening mechanism is jerky instead of smooth. This happens when seat is installed in base and uninstalled. I can't see that the straps and splitter plate are getting stuck on anything underneath.

Any ideas? (Been using this seat for 8 weeks on 8-9 lb baby) Thank you!

I pull slack from the hip area every time I tighten ours. I'm not sure if it's a seat issue or a tiny baby issue. Pulling slack from the hip area is a good practice in general to make sure you have all of the slack out of the harness.

I pull around the hips, the slack goes to the chest area, and then I use the tightening strap (I forget the technical term for it) to fully tighten the straps. It gets kind of stuck when I do that, but it does slide out jerkily when I pull. And if I lock the buckles and then try to tighten without first doing the hip thing, the tightening strap won't move at all, like it is totally stuck. Not a fan of this for a $300 infant seat (and I have had 9 car seats in addition to this one and none have done this).

Not much info out there on this seat. Maybe I will contact company if no one here can help trouble shoot (although I appreciate your advice as I have read here in these forums about unhelpful car seat manufacturer customer service).

Instead of putting the slack on the chest, try putting it above the chest clip so it's at the shoulders. Sometimes the friction of the chest clip can make tightening difficult, no matter what quality of seat you have.

:yeahthat: And sometimes it helps to wait until the seat is tight before clipping the chest clip. That helps keep the slack from hanging up there.

I'd definitely give this a try. Its good practice to remove the slack from the hips first so I'd keep doing that, but I'd suggest waiting to do the chest clip up until last and seeing if it makes a difference. (I suspect it could potentially make a significant one due to the angle of the slots.)

Thank you for the tip! I never would have tried tightening prior to clipping chest clip.
I tried it this morning. The tightening strap is still kind of stuck if I don't first adjust the hip area, but when I pulled the slack from hips and then pulled the tightening strap, it was a MUCH smoother operation than before when chest clip was already closed. It makes sense to always pull slack from hips first, so now I am more satisfied with the operation of the seat. (The touted Dream Drape on the other hand, not so satisfied, but that's for another post :)

Thank you for all your help ! You are car seat wizzes! (You all also helped me learn to more easily and effectively tighten my Radian by pulling straps in back first)

I TOTALLY figured it out! The blue thing that holds the seatbelt strap had popped up and interfered when its in the holder. Pop that blue thing down into place and the problem is solved.
