I always took Cordelia's boots off before putting her into the car seat. I made sure she had no thick clothing on her, and did up her harnesses and then tucked a blanket over her, and tucked the blanket under her feet to keep them covered

I just take off boots in the car and toss them on the floor mats. I tried a t-shirt on the vehicle seat back, it just soaked through, and honestly I found it a pain getting a struggling toddler into a RF seat with a confined leg area with extra stuff on their feet anyway. I sometimes take off shoes during the summer too.
As for warmth, my kids have a fleece that is carseat safe and once they are buckled they use their winter coats like blankets.
ETA, my FFer takes off her boots too, I got tired of footprints on the back of my driver's seat! She was using her feet to push herself back into her Nauti and leaving icky mess.

I carry YDS to the car, can't trust him not to jump in a mud puddle on the way to the car anyway! LOL

ODS takes his own boots off and leaves them outside the car and then I put them on the floor. Guess he started doing that at 3-4yo.

DS wasn't a long RFer, but even so, he didn't wear boots in the car in the winter either. We had these great little down booties from MEC (something like these, but they've been redesigned since our time,) that we'd either carry him to the car in, or put on at the car after we took his boots off.

ETA: I don't think the booties are actually down.

With Evelyn, we were lucky enough to have leather seats. I would take her boots off or wipe down the seat back. I also tucked a towel under the headrest. Carrying them to the car is the best, but not always practical. My FFers track in a lot of crap too!!

I put a towel over the back of the vehicle seat. For the most part we took his boots off though, just b/c they are almost up to his knees and really not very comfortable for his contortionist antics when RF. ;) When he was wearing his Stonz booties though I would just leave them on. They didn't hold a ton of snow as there aren't any treads. The towel would absorb any small amount of moisture that they had on them.
If it was a really snowy morning I would just carry him from the house to the van. Much quicker than having to bang off boots (and legs and butt and arms if he decided to dive in to a snow bank.)

I carried them in when I could, but I always took their boots off as well before they went in. They usually do the same FF so the seat edge doesn't get mucky. For older RF, I was wont to toss their bum in the seat sideways with their feet sticking out sideways over the edge of the shell, steal their boots and toss on floormat behind the seat, then eposition and harness.

No need to remove shoes. Use a RF dirt cover. Easy, cheap and will protect your seats. Every now and then remove car seat and empty all the sand and other crap. Best $20 you will ever spend:)

I think that she's more concerned about snow and slush; the seat gets really wet which then gives you a cranky kiddo with cold and wet pants. yuck!

Yep, definitely the wet that bothers me! There is probably an entire sandbox in my van right now, lol.

We do as others in the thread and just remove boots. I always just make sure there is an easy on/off pair for going to/from the vehicle and that the heavier duty snow boot with toggles or velcro, etc. is used only for playing outside. When DD was a new walker, we used Stonz booties for the car, loved them! Once she outgrew their sizes we used the pull on/off faux sheepskin for the vehicle. As a new walker she was usually carried to the vehicle else we would have never gotten there! :ROTFLMAO: So, the Stonz stayed on her feet to keep them toasty warm in her seat.

Once they get older, the larger boots are uncomfy and heavy to wear in the seat anyway so having an easy on/off car boot is great.

Thanks for all the replies - I am more worried about wetness from snow on the car seat and the back of the car's back seat - than sand. How old are you children who are wearing stonz - I was thinking they may be too small for Jack this winter but I also LOVE MEC so I might get those booties too. For those who carry back and forth and use blankets - do you just keep the blanket in the car and do you end up leaving boots in the car - I would want ot bring those things in to the house to keep them warm for the next trip but knowing me and my wiggly child who just wants down I would likely not get them into the house and curse myself at the next trip ehen everything is freezing in the car....

If this is his first year walking I'm sure the Stonz will fit. When Nick was 2 we used the Stonz over top of a pair of Padraig slippers. The Stonz were his primary winter boots. When he was 3 he had hard-soled boots. The Stonz still fit his feet, but not over Padraigs anymore. We would use the Stonz just over socks if we were just running to the school. (That was the XL size.)

We weren't so great at getting the booties back in the house either. I ended up having two pairs, one that was (supposed ;)) to be left in the car at all times, and one kept warm in the house. I didn't sweat it too much if DS had to wear the cold ones from the car... he never complained and it seemed they toasted up quite quickly.

In the snow, we keep an old towel in the car, I just wrapped Levi's feet in it (boots and all) and then buckled it in. He'd kick it off at some point, but by then the slush and stuff had been soaked up by the towel.

On the way home from anywhere, we'd just take the boot off, his feet stay warm because we use those feet warmer things, or just tuck them under his 2-layer fleece poncho.
