Which carseat for an older expedition

We are trying to decide between a britax boulevard or a radian xtsl for our newborn. Tips? We drive a 98 expedition.

The Classic models do not fit most newborns, correct. The newer generation of Britax convertibles provide an excellent fit with the Infant Positioning Insert (sold separately, only for new generation black shell convertibles, not classics). The latest slew of seats from Britax come with the Infant Positioning Insert. If you are in Canada, tethering while rear facing is mandatory. The Britax convertibles take up less space front-to-back rear facing but do not last as long rear facing (rear facing is the safest possible position and children should remain rear facing until a minimum of 2 years, and as close to 4 as possible)

The Radian is a great seat, it fits newborns very well, lasts rear facing a very long time, which is great. It does take up more space when rear facing, especially when set up for a newborn.

With your budget you could also look at the Chicco NextFit and Evenflo SureRide.
