Vehicle is TOO small!

We just bought a 2011 Jeep Compass. It's a compact SUV. My son is 11 months and weighs about 23 lbs. He has the Graco myride 65 LX but it only fits RF in the center seat. The problem is, a week after his 1st birthday (birthday is aug6) his little sister is due to arrive (edd aug13) I want to keep him rf as long as possible because I believe in the benefits of erf. But like I said his car seat only fits rf in he center seat. His sister has a graco snug ride 30. Is it safe to have him rf in the center and her on a side? If so is there a side that is safer? And honestly how do I choose between my two children who should be safest? I just don't know what to do. Any advice would be appreciated.

At your son's age he can sit more upright. Have you tried pushing it down near where his feet go as you tighten to get the ball as close to the edge of the angle indicator as you can? There is a pretty wide range of acceptable so try to get it as upright as it will go while still in that range. It should fit outboard like that.

If the seats can fit side by side that is fine as long as they are independently tight from each other. Install both seats, then take out the first one installed and be sure the second is still tight.

Rearfacing allows such greater protection than forward facing that no matter what your seat arrangement is they will both be very safe as long as the seats are installed and used correctly.

Don't think of it as chooseing... as long as they are both rf (seats corectly installed)they are safer than ff... the most convenent option would be to put the infant seat behind the driver so your son can climb out after you take the bucket out.
