Stroller Suggestions?

My sister is looking for a stroller for my one year old niece. Her budget is around $150. She will mostly be using it for shopping but will also be using it on gravel during the summer at the flee market and occasionally on dirt/grass at fairs and things like that.

She is pretty short if that matters and my niece is small (about 31in/21lbs at 17 months). She also wants something that is light weight as she will have to take it in and out of the trunk of her Durango. Any ideas of strollers that fit this criteria or close to it?

Thank you.

For $200, I would recommend the Baby Trend City Mini.

Could she swing up to $200?

A lot of people seem to really like the Kolcraft Contours, too. I have also heard good things about the Peg Perego Vela.

That is the exact stroller she wants, the City Mini, but she can't afford it :(. $150 is her absolute max. She really wants something nice though. Right now she has a graco stroller that came with her travel system. She doesn't seem to mind it too much but kind of wants something a little nicer, and preferably lighter.

Would any of these work?

Joovy Scooter
Max-cosi Loola
Joovy Kooper
Britax Blink
First Years Indgigo
Inglesina Swift
Zooper Twist
Peg Perego Vela

These all seem to be about her price ranger, some a little higher. Any opinions or experiences with these strollers?

She said she doesn't want a micro.

How does the micro compare to the mini? It seems like the tires are very small and wouldn't well for gravel/dirt/grass.

If she can stretch a bit, the Aprica Presto for $179. I really liked this one in person, and it has a very high weight capacity, to 70 lbs. This website is best price, but I'd search elsewhere for a better description of the stroller. http://www.babysupermarket.com/PAEHACCOMMANBPJA/Product?avad=36679_e157909f

I took my Micro double to an outdoor fair this summer - clumpy grass, sand and gravel - with no trouble at all. HTH

D'oh! I can't believe I wrote that! :eek::eek:

No worries. Could happen to any of us. :)

There is a great review of the micro double posted here last fall. That might be helpful.

A few months ago, I got a Micro double and Mini single. I haven't used the double much since it's been way too cold for outdoor activities and walks, but the little bit I used it before the weather got terrible, it didn't get hung up on the rough sidewalk and I was happy with the performance. Of course, neither the mini or micro are AT strollers. ;) I decided to splurge for the single mini because I use a single a lot. I didn't need most of the features, but I'm glad I have that huge canopy because during this especially harsh winter it helps to shield my little one from the bitter wind.

The basic frame structure is quite similar between the two. The main differences are the wheel size, recline (the mini's is much bigger, whereas micro is only for older babies and toddlers), canopy size (micro is about 2/3 the size of the mini), and the mini's padding. Also, it is likely the mini would be a newer year model and have the model year changes. The micros are 2009 models so they lack the larger underseat storage baskets of the 2010-11 Mini models and the PET boards and upright straps of the 2011 Mini models.

Can anyone think of anything I've missed?

I hope I haven't overwhelmed you and that this is helpful. If in the end she really wants the mini, I would look hard for a deal. If her baby is only one, she might be using it for a while and will likely get good resale value for it. I've seen people post deals on them here. HTH!

I realize you said $150 is the absolute max, but you also said she would like a City Mini (and I think that is a great stroller:love:). Would she be open to a used one? You can try looking on craigslist to see if any used ones are for sale. They show up on my craigslist sometimes.
