Silly to get a Nextfit for a 3.5 year old ?

I was originally trying to decide between a few different Gracos for my 3.5 year old, 36", 33lb boy. But I saw a deal where I can get a Nextfit for $239 plus a $100 gift certificate comes with it (someone posted here about this - at BB&B). so after tax that is around $160. I'm tempted but wondering if it is a bit odd to do this since at his age/size it's not exactly the 'next' seat for him.

We do have a baby coming in March, and so I was thinking that by the time the 3.5 year old is really ready for more of a booster type seat, the baby would be ready for the Nextfit. My babies are usually big (9+ lbs_, 21") and so grow out of their infant seats quickly - this one will have a Keyfit.

Thoughts?

If not this idea, does anyone have any other suggestions for my 3.5 year old for a new seat? for some reason I am just not yet able to pull the trigger on a Graco - I don't know why. We had a Nautilus for my daughter and she liked it just fine. They are rated well and safe if installed correctly, right? I think one issue is that I just realllllly love the ease of installation of Chiccos. I've had a few Britax but have really not found them all that user friendly, not compared to Chicco...so am skeptical about Britax too between that and the price. And I really struggle with the install of our one RAdian, so kind of shy away from those as well.

Thanks!!!

Aside from lgenne's questions, I think it is totally fine to get a Nextfit (at a good deal!) for a 3.5 year old if you have a baby on the way to inherit it down the road.

I take it he's forward facing already? What seat is he currently in, and why does it need to be replaced?

Yes he is FF. He currently is in a Britax marathon he inherited from my 6 yr old. It expires in a year, but the seat cover is missing almost every single clip now and so it slides around and won't stay put. I considered a new cover but with the seat done in a year it doesn't seem worth it.

I agree with Nedra. If you like it, and you'll need a convertible for a baby later, go for it! Get him a combination seat or dedicated booster (depending on timing and behavioral maturity) when the baby is ready for a convertible.
