Side airbags and booster

To expand upon what murphydog said, my understanding is that leaning against the door/putting a car seat up against it won't actually lead to injury FROM the airbag, it will just render the airbag pointless. Side airbags don't deploy with the same speed or force as frontal ones, so it's not like someone will be killed by being hit with an inflating side airbag. But like she said, it might mean that the people won't benefit from the protection the airbags provide.

The TC fact sheet I posted earlier said from their testing, one of the conclusions was that children leaning against a side air bag when it inflates are at risk of serious injury. And that TC was working with manufacturers to make side air bag deployment safer. I don't know if that has happened yet. The fact sheet says it was updated 2006, so hopefully progress has been made in 9 years (14 years since the fact sheet was originally written).

Doh, sorry, I didn't even see that. I thought I had read elsewhere that side airbags didn't pose an injury hazard, but I can't cite my memory :p

Aw. And I have 3 across the back of a van, and the outboard seats are not centered perfectly.
We'd love to center more but it's impossible. We couldn't even use a rigid latch and fit the 3, if we wanted to.
