sharing seatbelt female buckle ends?

We were at my ILs and wanted to use the backless turbobooster for DD one day (the rest of the time she was in the BubbleBum). I wanted to put the seat outboard, but because of the side bolster, the booster was right next to the buckle stalk and I could not get the seatbelt to buckle. The female end for the center position was right next to it, and I could get it in there and it seemed secure. Would this have been allowed? (no one would have been riding in the center at the time)

What vehicle & what kind of buckle stalks? (like short fixed so that the release button would be on the inside if using it the wrong spot or long and floppy so it can be turned?) Some vehicles you physically can't buckle into the incorrect buckle (I know our Subaru was like that), if you tried to buckle the center belt into the outboard buckle it wouldn't latch. Honestly in our truck with the big floppy buckle stalks there's no way to tell which one you're grabbing unless you stick your hand down between the cushions to figure out which is which.
