Question seatbelt/latch question

I'm installing a convertible car seat for the first time, it is the Graco Contender 65. I'm installing it in a 2011 chevy impala. I've been reading through the manual and maybe I'm just overlooking, but can I or should I use the seatbelt and the latches both, or just one or the other?? Also it comes with an insert that goes under the baby, do I leave that in there regardless or are there certain rules on it?? My baby is 6 months old, about 20 lbs and 27 inches long.

You should only use one, not both at the same time. If you are wanting to put the seat in the center, you will want to read the manual to see if you have latch there. Neither method is safer than the other, do whichever allows the best install. My parents have an impala, a couple years older than yours, and I prefer to install using the seat belt because the latch anchors are so difficult to access, but yours could be different. As for the seat inserts, that should be in the manual. I an not familiar with that seat.
