Radian vs. 2010 Traverse, round 2

I had posted in the subfolder this morning asking about latch limits on a 2010 Chevy Traverse.

I did a check today at station and mom posed the question "What about the Super Latch" in regards to latch limits of the vehicle. My initial inclination is to refer back to the Chevy limit of 48 lbs, but I know SK said vehicles made after a certain date (believe some time in late 05?) can all be latched to 80 lbs- so who trumps whom in that situation? I know if it were my own vehicle I would err on the side of caution and go with the lower number, but I want to make sure I follow up with mom with correct info.

Also- neither mom nor I had our owner's manuals for the Radian XTSL with us and I know that the head wings can only be used RFing with the upper harness slots- but I forget specifically which ones. Does anyone know offhand? I tried searching via my phone but that was slow and tedious without the concrete answer I needed. (ETA- I have read that the bottom two slots cannot use the headwings but the rest can. Just wanting to verify?)

As I was wrapping up the check we caught a call and I had to leave. Thankfully mom had done the install and we had secured the D-ring and double checked everything, so I feel 100% confident that she can repeat a secure install if she needs to uninstall and reinstall. I just hated having to leave in a hurry, and told her I would follow up via email. (She contacted me via this site, and had purchased an XTSL to RF her 7 month old. Was familiar with ERFing. This site is doing it's job! Thank you to everyone who helps on here.)

According to SK, vehicles made after Sep. 2005 can be used with LATCH up to the seat's limits with superLATCH. I'm comfortable with it because it's not just a change in the LATCH - Sep. 2005 had improvements to FMVSS 225 regarding static strength requirements of vehicle lower anchors. That's what makes the increased limits possible.
Offhand, if I remember correctly, the headwings have to be all the way up the seat when using the bottom 2 slots, but you use the headwings for all the slots above that.

Keep in mind that Sunshine Kids allows LATCH to be used to the limits of the seat if your car was manufactured after 9/1/05. You always want to double check the manufacture date of you car. To do this, open your driver side door and there will a white sticker that will give you your car's DOM. A lot of times, even if your car is an '05, it will have been manufactured in '04. :)

And yep, you don't move the headwings until the third harness slots are being used. Until then, they are pushed all the way to the top.

Awesome. Thanks ladies. The vehicle in question was a 2010 so no doubt about being made after 2005. I didn't know about the change in latch standards and was assuming it might be another one of SKs "because we said so, its ok" sort of things.

Baby was on the third set of slots and that was all we had left to verify, so we left the headwings up until I could confirm allowable slot positions. I will pass it along to her. Thanks again. Will rep you both when not replying from phone. :)

Thanks for your help this weekend! So far so good with the seat, we did go out and get him an extra head support since his neck was leaning way over in the new seat and he has battled torticollis but now he's comfortable, just getting used to life without the bucket...

Glad to "see" you! Was just about to email you. The seat should have come with some extra inserts and a little headrest. I wouldn't add anything behind his head other than that, but rolled blankets around his head are ok if he needs them.

Again, sorry I had to run off (that guy did end up being really sick though). Let me know if you need any more help.
