Have a friend flying Porter and her daughter (4) has her own seat, but they say her carseat counts as luggage.

Because of this, my friend is looking to rent a seat when she gets to her destination.

If the seat is going to be in use during flight, should it not count as luggage?

I think the person she talked to is confused. Their website doesn't address car seats used in flight, but it clearly says there is no fee for checking a car seat

I would have her e-mail their customer service to clarify their in-flight car seat policy.

Thanks, she is definitely against checking her seat (thankfully).

I thought it was pretty strange that it would count if in use.

This might be too late to help your friend, but we took Porter for the first time last week and they were 100% fine with the carseat onboard. There was no question of it counting as luggage or anything like that.

The flight attendant did intercept us on the jetway to make sure that it was an approved seat... and for a second I thought there might be a problem, because it did not have the "CMVSS 213" marking that he was apparently looking for. I had to explain that our US seats use a different phrasing and that Transport Canada accepts the US standard. But that was the end of it and this wouldn't be an issue for your friend with Canadian seats.

Porter has a generous seat pitch (around 34") so RF carseats fit with plenty of room for the person ahead to recline, if they need to.
