Question Nextfit rearfacing question

My just turned 3 year old is rear facing in a Nextfit. His head is just shy of the top headrest (maybe 1/2") but if I raise the headrest the harness is above his shoulders. Do I leave the headrest as is, raise it but have is shoulders below the harness or turn him forward facing?

How far above his shoulders is the harness when you raise the headrest? I can't remember if the seat has the rule about the head being at least an inch from the top or not. I am thinking not, but I don't have my manual handy to check.

I called Chicco about that a year ago or so. They said that "you could go by the 1 inch rule if you want." When I asked whether *they* wanted me to follow the 1" rule, they said that it wasn't really necessary because kids would hit the 40 lbs limit before getting too tall for the seat.

OP, I would call Chicco and ask what to do in this situation.
