what would be your top pick?

I have previously used Graco models, but my last (Graco Snugride 22) we did not like at all. We do not need the higher (30 lb.) weight for an infant as none of my children (6 of them) have even hit 20 lbs. by 12mths. (And at that point, we put them RF'ing in the Radians). I can't really spend upper $100's- $200's, but would prefer mid $100's or less. If there just happens to be an amazing seat at the $200, then perhaps we can work with that.

What did you dislike about your Snugride 22? Knowing that will help us make suggestions.

I felt that the straps didn't stay adjusted well and would gradually loosen. Didn't really like the strap adjuster being behind/under the back.

I loved my Keyfit, but wished it was lighter and cooler (June baby). The Safety 1st seats interest me, not sure why I crossed them off my list when I was shopping, but they seem nice. The OnBoard 35 Air was rated in the highest category of crashworthiness by Consumer Reports, as were the Cosco Comfy Carry Elite/Elite Plus.

Edit: the OnBoard Air has an MSRP of $160. The Comfy Carry line has been replaced with the Cosco Light n Comfy line. Not sure how different they are, but I remember from the webinar that at least they have front harness adjusters. The LX version has the adjustable base and MSRP of $90.

I had thought that might have bee he trouble! Almost all car seats are "front adjust" now and advertise this feature prominently -- so this problem should be easy to avoid if you look for something like "up front harness adjustment" in the item description.

If you liked other aspects of the Snugride, a Snugride 30 can be bought for about $99.

We were in the position where our infant seat had expired and we needed to purchase one for our son who was just born.

My first choice would be the Chicco Keyfit, which we had with our first son and I love the ease of base install, the harness adjust and the handle. We got luckly and found a ridiculous price on one, so this is what we purchased. My second choice would have been the Onboard Air 35 as I have a tendency to have super tall kiddos and it would last longer and I like the safety features. With the limits of our budget, it was likely that I would have ended up getting the regular Onboard 35.

I have nothing against Graco seats, but the Snugride we started out with for our son 3 years ago didn't have front adjust and I hated it, so once we tried the Keyfit, I fell in love with it.
