How does the Phil & Ted's brake work?

We drove out to see the P&T yesterday. Nice salesperson showed me the three different trims, showed us the differences. I forgot to ask her to show me how the foot brake (Sport & Classic models) works. When I was playing with it I couldn't make it work but I wasn't sure what I was doing and didn't want to break it.

Can anyone show me (pics or video?) how it works? Or maybe a really good description? I've heard that there's a problem with it and flip flops, but I'm not a flip flop gal. I just need to know that DH and I can make it work.

TIA!

You have to kick it up with a bit of force to get it to unlock or kick down to get it to lock. I asked about this and was told it was made to be difficult so that a child in the back seat couldn't undo it. I at first was afraid i'd break it when i was opening. After a few times of doing it, i was comfortable doing it and new just how much force to use,

yeah, you have to push like you are flipping it back/down to lock it. It is a stiff mechanism, plus you could push on the L or the R, so which ever side you choose has to work for both sides. I think it just takes a while to transfer the force you are applying along that wire break to the opposite side. Very doable, just hard in flip flops. I have to use my hand then.

I used to just not do it, but after that video of the kid going in front of the train in the runaway stroller, now I use the wrist strap, never let go, and always lock the break :(
