Question How can I prevent tether from damaging seat in a wagon?

I am installing a FF Radian car seat in my Saab 9-3 wagon, but this question apply to any FF car seat install in any car there the tethers are anchored behind the seat, like wagons, hatchbacks and vans.

How do I tighten the tether strap without causing too much compression and damage to the top of my seat? Should I run the tether over the head rest or under? Are there any products to spread the pressure more evening so the upholstery foam is not permanently compressed?

Thanks for your help.

I'm not familiar with your car, however you should check your manual regarding whether to run the tether under or over the headrest (or even to remove the headrest). Some (all?) vehicles have instructions regarding this.

My vehicle interior has also always fixed itself, but I only had a tether installed for a few days.

I've never caused permanent damage to a seat from the top tether, even in vehicles with leather seats. Eventually the creases fade and it looks fine. And I have had seats installed for long periods of time.

And if I recall correctly, you just need to remove the slack from the tether, you don't have to pull it super duper uber tight. None of the times I've had a tethered seat has the indent stayed after removing the seat for a couple days and all I do is remove slack. My seats don't move forward the tiniest bit when I have them top tethered.
