We just realized that our spare maestro expired a couple of weeks ago when we pulled it out to set it up for my almost 4 yr old to use (40 lbs, size 5 clothing). It is the seat that goes in dad's car, grandma's car, airplane trips, etc. The maestro wasn't love for us, but it got the job done. Are there better options out there for seats that have at least an 18 in harness height, harness to ~65 lbs or so, are relatively lightweight and compact, install well in a multitude of cars, and ideally are budget friendly since it doesn't see a ton of use?
I was all sold on the Graco Tranzitions/wayz until reading that it can be finicky to install in some cars. I am eyeballing the Evenflo sureride or securekid but can't get a good sense of how big/wide/heavy these are or which would be better. The Harmony Defender is another option I am looking at but I worry about the weight and inability to install with overhang since it will need to work in several different cars.
Any suggestions or more info on the seats I am looking at? Are there other seats I should be looking at too?
