Question Gate Check bag for Maclaren Quest?

Any advice out there on stroller gate check bags? I haven't seen these in person. Is it worth it to pay the extra money for something padded? Thank you!

I've gate checked a mac a few times and never had a problem. Flying is so stressful, I guess in my mind getting a stroller in and out of a bag is just one more thing to have to deal with.

We don't have a Mac - but when we take a stroller when we fly we have a Chicco that came with a bag. It is kind of annoying to have to put it in the bag (especially if you're doing it at the end of the Jetway - we usually have a carseat strapped to it). But it's nice knowing the stroller isn't going to get caught on anything. I could see wrapping a bungee around it if you don't have a bag, just to make sure it doesn't open up when they're handling it. I wouldn't bother with a padded bag, there's not much to protect on an umbrella stroller, I see it mostly as something to keep it clean and keep all parts together.

We use this one:
http://www.diapers.com/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?productId=9795

It folds up into its own little pouch. We did have a problem with our clamp that attaches the canopy getting damaged once, but I don't know if it happened on the plane, etc. I don't know if a better bag would have protected it and I've never heard of anyone else having an issue...
Also, it keeps it clean. We use the same bag for our carseat (the carseat version) and both are FILTHY when they come out at the end. I can't imagine not using something... Ick!

Thanks for all the replies. I hadn't thought about what a pain it might be to put it in the bag, but I still think I'd feel more comfortable trying to do that. I was hoping to not have to spend the extra on the padded bag and I was eyeing that very gate check bag in hopes that might work, both for the low price and because I didn't need another bulky item to carry to the gate. :) Unless I get some other replies that convince me otherwise, I think I'll get that one.

Honestly, it's not that much of a hassle and I'm just grossed out by having my carseat and stroller without a bag in the cargo hold (but that's me). At least with these, they fold up super small (and zip into themselves) and just fit in the diaper bag or backpack. They really offer no protection other than from dirt. And they make it easy to grab your stroller/carseat because they have a huge nylon grab handle. And for $13, you really can't go wrong.

Thank you for the additional info! Glad to hear it isn't bad having to stop and load it into the bag because I feel the same way about the dirt. For $13, it sounds like a great bag to me.

I bought an expensive one, the Maclaren one, but I have always loved that I can throw a bunch of toys in it. I have even loaned it out to friends.
